Garth Brooks at the Saddledome
A complete record of every Garth Brooks show at the Calgary Saddledome, from the 1996 Fresh Horses tour to his Stampede residency to the 2024 Plus One return. The Saddledome was Garth's Calgary office for thirty years.
If there is a non-Flames performer that defines the Saddledome era, it is Garth Brooks. He has played the building more times than any single tour act in Saddledome history, including a Stampede-week residency in 2018 that broke ticket records. Calgary is a country town with the population of a major city, and Garth understood that better than any artist who has ever booked the Dome.
1996 · Fresh Horses tour

Garth's first Saddledome shows came on the Fresh Horses tour, his first major arena tour after the album of the same name. The Calgary stop was a Saturday night sellout. The pyro budget had increased dramatically from his earlier club tours. The "Friends in Low Places" sing-along filled the Dome's bowl louder than any C of Red playoff crowd.
For Calgarians who had grown up on country radio, the 1996 show was the moment Garth went from "country star" to "biggest live act on Earth." He held the room for two hours and forty minutes, played both his hits and the deep cuts, and ended with an extended "The Dance" that left half the crowd in tears. It became the template for every Garth Brooks Saddledome show after.
2014-15 · World Tour with Trisha Yearwood

After a 14-year break from major touring while raising his daughters, Garth came back in 2014 and Calgary was on the route. The Saddledome added shows. Then added more shows. The original two-night booking ballooned to nine sold-out shows over consecutive weekends, the longest single-artist Saddledome residency at the time. Trisha Yearwood opened.
The 2014 shows are remembered for two reasons. First, the volume of demand: Calgary fans bought through every additional show as fast as Ticketmaster could release them. Second, the format: Garth invited fans onstage, accepted homemade signs from the crowd, paused his set to take requests from specific seats, and treated the Saddledome like a 19,000-seat living room. The Calgary shows became the model for the entire 2014-17 Garth Brooks World Tour.
2018 · Stampede residency
July 5-7, 2018 · The Stampede shows
For the 2018 Calgary Stampede, Garth Brooks did three Saddledome shows during Stampede week itself, a coordination unprecedented in Stampede history. All three sold out in minutes. The Saddledome became a Stampede satellite stage for those three nights, with Stampede grounds-pass holders allowed in via the south gate.
The Stampede 2018 shows are part of the building's permanent file. They demonstrated that the Saddledome could host a true country music residency at a scale comparable to Las Vegas. They also produced one of the most-shared moments of the 2018 Stampede when Garth, in cowboy hat, brought a young child on stage during "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and let her sing the second verse.
2024 · Plus One Tour

Garth's most recent Saddledome appearance was on the 2024 Plus One Tour, a return arena tour after his Las Vegas residency wound down. The Calgary shows were a single weekend, two nights. They sold out in the first hour of the on-sale. The setlist drew from his entire catalog, including songs he had not performed at the Dome since the 1996 tour.
The 2024 Plus One Tour shows are likely to be Garth's final Saddledome appearances. After the 2026-27 Flames season, the building's calendar shrinks dramatically as it prepares for demolition. Future Garth Brooks Calgary tours will play Scotia Place instead.
Why Garth chose Calgary
Garth Brooks has talked about the Saddledome on multiple occasions in interviews, calling it one of his favorite arenas to play. The reasons he has cited: the bowl shape (the saddle roof produces unusual acoustics that bounce sound back to the stage), the audience density (Saddledome crowds sing along louder than most arena audiences), and the Stampede city mentality (Calgary takes country music as seriously as any city in North America).
Garth has also said the Saddledome's logistics were always easy: the loading dock arrangement is straightforward for tour buses, the lighting rig points are well-positioned, and the locker rooms are large enough to accommodate big production crews.
What happens at Scotia Place
Garth Brooks tours after 2027 will play Scotia Place, the new Flames home. Scotia Place is approximately 1,000 seats larger and has a more conventional concert configuration. The Saddledome's distinctive acoustics will not be replicated. For Garth fans who have seen him at the Dome, the 2024 shows are likely the last opportunity to see him perform in that specific room.
